Jerry’s Nugget Casino shakes up its dining options in North Las Vegas, adding a familiar local name and a pair of Maestro Pizzaiolos.
Contento Pizzeria & Bar replaces Uncle Angelo’s Pizza Joint, now shuttered next door to Jerry’s Famous Coffee Shop, and starts serving Italian-style “gourmet pizzas” on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Behind the new creations, executive chef Ismaele Romano, former executive pizza manager at Pizzeria Sapori, in Newport Beach, California, plus another Maestro Pizzaiolo, Matteo Conte, whose career includes creating Neapolitan-style pizza in Florence, Italy.
A wine list featuring 50 wines priced under $100 will complement the new menu, built around antipasti, pasta dishes and pizza, such as a $9 margherita and the $12 “Contento,” topped with white beans puree, housemade sausages and broccoli rabe. Other dishes include a $15 lasagna, $10 arancini Siciliani and entrees including a $23 branzino, and the $21, 18 ounce New York steak, “sliced over organic arugula, shaved parmigiana and sautéed mushrooms.”
For dessert, Jerry’s Nugget has enlisted Doug Taylor, last seen at Downtown’s Art of Flavors and formerly executive pastry chef at Carnevino, B&B, and Otto at the Venetian. Taylor will oversee all baked goods and pastries on property, introducing “unique cake flavors” in the coffee shop and tiramisu and cheesecake at Contento’s.
The remodeled pizzeria space adds a lounge and a stand-alone bar, both offering a happy hour menu Monday to Friday, from 3 to 6 p.m. and then 9 p.m. to closing, serving wine by the glass and cocktails for $6 each.
A “Contento To-Go” counter will also let guests take home “salads, pizzas, and focaccia paninis,” highlighted by “combination” deals like the $13 Contnento Wine special, featuring “two slices of pizza + one glass house red or white wine.”
