Less than a month after confirmation of the shutter of both east-side fixture Origin India and the westside’s Paradise India comes news of more changes in the local Indian dining scene.

India Masala has been operating since 2001, creating a steady following for its daily lunch buffet right at the corner of Flamingo Road and Cambridge Street. Vegadesi.com reports that Ulzan Mehta, the former owner of India Oven at 2218 Paradise Road, has officially taken over the east-side business and also shuttered his 12-year-old restaurant near the Stratosphere.

Now serving inside the larger space on Flamingo, Mehta merged the two names and settled on calling itself India Masala Oven Bar & Grill. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the blog also notes buffet upgrades include "a live tandoor” oven for Indian breads and a “dosa station."

Half a mile to the south, new arrival Taste Homestyle Indian Kitchen is promising to be close to an opening at 4440 S. Maryland Parkway inside the Campus Village retail center, just a few steps down from another recent tenant, House of Frites.

Aiming directly at the local student population, the compact menu features four appetizers, including samosas and spinach fritters, vegetarian bowls like “aloo matar” and non-meat bowls, including lamb curry and chicken masala.
