Very quietly, but long anticipated, Origin India on the eastside has shuttered its doors and turned off the phones. Debuting in April 2006, owner Raja Majid’s restaurant rode a long wave of positive reviews and a steady stream customers that had both dropped off in recent years. Majid once hoped to expand to Summerlin and Henderson, but did operate a food court kiosk at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The 2,811-square-foot space at the Paradise Esplanade, located across Paradise Road from the Hard Rock Hotel, has been publicly advertised as available to lease for the last six months, with the restaurant concept and brand previously put up for sale in 2014.
Back in May, Majid entered into a partnership with the westside’s Paradise India, enlisting owner William Bathini to take over the executive chef position at Origin India. Bathini’s 6,000-square-foot restaurant on Sahara also recently shuttered a short time after its first anniversary.
Majid is currently the owner of event caterers Exquisite Hospitality, which was shut down in January by the Southern Nevada Health District for an imminent health hazard. New tenants for either restaurant location have yet to be revealed.
