A new taco bar in Spring Valley makes it easy for vegetarians and carnivores alike to order cheap, counter-service tacos. At Bruno’s Taco Bar, patrons order at the counter and then servers bring the dishes to the table, finding customers with a number held by a cute piñata holder.
Grilled skirt steak, Baja fish, calabacita (a summer squash) with zucchini ribbons and corn, guajillo braised short rib, chorizo and potato, and more tacos — served on corn or flour tortillas, or lettuce — make the menu, while each dish has a vegetarian option. For example, customers can swap out marinate portobello mushroom for the skirt steak, beer-batter cauliflower for the fish, jackfruit for the carnitas, or marinated cauliflower for the chicken al pastor. The most expensive rings in at $4.95, but keep in mind, that’s for one taco.
Diners get tomatillo pico de gallo, tomato and jalapeño, chile de arbol and tomatillo, and passion fruit and habanero salsa with their orders. Guacamoles come with poblanos and queso fresco or bacon.
For dessert, an almond and chocolate, chocolate and coconut, and Fruity Pebbles churros.
The restaurant even serves margaritas in pineapple jalapeño and mango chili, Mexican chocolate mocha, sangrias, Mexican sodas, and beers by the bottle, in cans or on tap.
