NEW YORK CITY — Payard Patisserie, the bakery originally opened by pastry chef François Payard, closed all three of its New York City locations. Payard resigned as its executive chef in 2016. His location at Caesars Palace closed in November with Giada De Laurentiis bringing her Pronto by Giada to the space in February. [ENY]
DETROIT — Shawn McClain, the James Beard Foundation Best Chef Midwest in 2006, plans to open a massive, 20,000-square-foot restaurant on the 71st and 72nd floors of the GM Renaissance Center filled with different concepts, Eater Detroit reports. In Las Vegas, he operates Libertine Social at Mandalay Bay and Sage and Five50 Pizza Bar at Aria. [EDET]
WYNN LAS VEGAS — Food Network darling Giada De Laurentiis picks up the Nevada Ballet Theater’s Woman of the Year on Saturday night during the 34th Annual Black & White Ball. She tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that “she considers Las Vegas her second home.” After all, she has Giada at The Cromwell and Pronto by Giada opening next month at Caesars Palace. De Laurentiis’ grandfather, film producer Dino De Laurentiis, produced more than 600 movies, including Serpico, Dune, and a remake of King Kong. Posters of his biggest films line the bar at Giada.
