If the violet-hues of the ube dishes coming to Cafe 86 in Spring Valley caught your eye, get ready for the green-tinted obsession of Matcha Stand Maiko, headed to Las Vegas and Henderson.

Operating a walk-up up stand in Honolulu since the summer of 2016, the franchise spin-off Matcha Cafe Maiko is promising it will be opening two local outposts later this year. While the locations are yet to be confirmed, the parent company is restricting each city to a single cafe.

The restaurant creates the entire menu, including the ice cream, sponge cake, and “adzuki bean topping,” in house. The finely ground green tea leaves that create the matcha ingredient are all imported from Uji, Kyoto, and its Harima Garden, a famed supplier since 1858.

Very aware of the social media draw of its very colorful products, the Hawaii original offers a series of props and signs for customers to use when posing for photographs.

Menu items expected to be imported to the Ninth Island include parfaits, soft ice cream, waffle cones, shaved ice, teas, lattes, floats, and “Kokuto gelatin.”

An opening timetable has yet to be revealed.
