Back in August, Nordstrom shut down its Marketplace Cafe on the third floor as part of a renovation to the department store at Fashion Show mall. Now Seattle chef Tom Douglas takes over the kitchen and introduces Jeannie’s, a full-service Italian restaurant with dishes spanning pizzas and pastas to sandwiches and gelato.
Even some healthy options make the menu, including a kale salad and a variety of roasted vegetables such as oven-roasted carrots, roasted baby beets, and heirloom tomatoes with burrata. Even the mac and cheese contains cauliflower for a healthier filler.
Douglas, a James Beard winner for best restaurateur with 15 restaurants in Seattle, teamed up with Nordstrom for the second time and based Jeannie’s on his Serious Pie, a pizzeria with the heart of a bread maker. The secret to Douglas’ pies? Crusts cooked at 530 degrees for six-and-a-half minutes and then topped with cheeses and herbs after the crust bakes. A fennel sausage, Iowa proscuitto with dried figs, roasted oyster mushroom, and broccoli rabe pizza make the menu.
Douglas’ love of Scotland brings warm sandwiches, dubbed “toasties,” to the menu as well. Foccacia pressed with ingredients such as prosciutto and fontina, eggplant parmesan, and cheddar cheese create this section of the menu.
Diners can pick up beers, wines, and cocktails at the bar.
Dishes here range in price from $10 for a Beecher’s Flagship cheddar toastie to $19 for a pepperoni pizza. Twelve gluten-free gelato flavor span strawberry cheesecake to Nutella for $4.
Douglas named the restaurant for Jeannie Nordstrom, the wife of Bruce Nordstrom, the former chairman of the company.
The 117-seat restaurant sits on the third floor of the department store.
