On Dec. 28, visitors to the Park MGM resort will be able to make an opening night visit to the 11,000-square-foot On the Record nightclub, hidden behind a mock record store shopfront.
A few feet away, hidden behind its own “Liquor Store” bar, Roy Choi’s first expansion to Las Vegas will already up and running, according to a new billboard greeting travelers on Swenson Street.
One of the most eagerly anticipated debuts of the year, Choi’s Instagram feed has been promoting a Dec. 28 launch for Best Friend, while the expensive and harder to change new advertising updates it will open Dec. 19.

Self-described as “Koreatown in a capsule — a portal to the streets of LA,” Choi has posted video previews to social media, explaining he hopes the project will feel similar to a “barbecue restaurant or a dim sum parlor on a Sunday afternoon,” where “all your manners go to the wind and you’re licking your fingers and reaching across the table and talking with your mouth full.”

Reflecting on the location, he added, “I just want to bring smiles, and a little bit of nerdiness and humility and kindness to this big casino restaurant.”
He will be assisted in creating the “Korean BBQ joint” menu by Diego Echavarria, former executive chef at Choi’s now-shuttered concepts at Koreatown’s Line Hotel.
