As one well known national chain departs Spring Valley, a new expansion is on the way.

Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que closed at the Grand Flamingo Center in Spring Valley, shuttering its eight-year old, stand-alone restaurant at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Grand Canyon Drive. The parent company had warned last year “we may close some under-performing locations,” part of a financial strategy that includes selling all 33 of its company-owned restaurants to franchisees.

Locally, Famous Dave’s barbecue continues to be served in four locations, in the southwest, Henderson, the westside, and close to North Las Vegas.

A short walk from Famous Dave’s, newcomer Jon Smith Subs will take over the former Freddie’s Nutrition retail store.

The restaurant, founded in 1988 in Palm Beach County, Florida, features a familiar roster of deli subs, plus grilled specialties, such as a Cuban sandwich, a Reuben, burgers, hot pastrami, kielbasa, and a popular side order “of Jon’s Famous French Fries.”

The casual venture confidently promises it does “not serve junk” and in a dig at its competitors, promotes “NO flap steak or beef knuckles, NO pre-sliced, preserved meats or vegetables, NO pre-cooked steak, NO pre-cooked chicken, NO dehydrated onions, NO gassed tomatoes, NO Tuna ‘Helper,’ NO turkey roll, NO shortcuts, NO bologna, NO BALONEY!”

Jon Smith Subs is currently hiring and announced it is “coming soon.”
