Downtown’s retro-themed and 1950s-inspired Classic Jewel lounge is looking to expand, but is keeping true to its roots at the Juhl apartment building and upgrading a few steps east.
Launched almost two years ago, the compact 1,052-square-foot space has earned a loyal fan-base for its cocktail program, long bar, plush booth seating, sidewalk area and a diverse roster of live entertainment staged by the front window.
New plans call to add the 1,031-square-foot suite 109, located right next door, into its footprint. The upgrade will create more seating and an adaptable area for events, with an upstairs room used for any back of house needs. It also means the lounge can add another 115 square feet for guests to sit outside.
Co-created by building resident Jerome Harry, the walls are decorated with images of a bygone era, but the venue also actively hosts contemporary live music and comedy nights.
No timetable for completion has been announced, but initial work is not expected to impact current day-to-day operations.
