Already serving a “Maui-Mex” menu in 10 Hawaii locations and now aggressively expanding to the mainland, Maui Tacos intends to surf into in Las Vegas and Reno before the end of the year.

Mark Ellman, a local celebrity chef and restaurateur well-known for continued support in promoting Hawaiian “Regional Cuisine,” created the brand in 1993. Nevada will host of two of the six initial, national expansions, with 12 more expected for 2019.

The casual concept combining Aloha spirit with “Mauitude” offers a menu that can be upgraded at the salsa bar with mild to fiery selections such as the “Hula Heat Chile Arbol,” “Pinapelle Passion” and the “Maui Firedancer Chipotle Hot Salsa.”

“Surf burritos” are served “wet” with an enchilada sauce, and include the “Hookipa,” made with marinated grilled fish. Adobo chicken, Hawaiian pork and fish can also be served in a bowl and join platter choices of carne asada or taquitos.

For dessert, the deep-fried tortilla “Banana Chingalinga” arrives with “Roselani’s Hawaiian vanilla ice cream and sweet caramel sauce.”

A confirmed Las Vegas location has yet to be revealed.
