The promise is a casual-spin on “Southern style soul food prepared with heart and soul,” but the twist will be a menu prepared with “100% plant based food.”

Created by Amber Dunn and chef Robert Ferrara of Spring Valley fish & chips specialists Off The Hook, Amber’s Smoked Vegan will soon begin serving in space 150 at the CSN Campus Commons. Located at 6475 W. Charleston Blvd., previous tenants for this very informal spot include 702 Wing Spot and a similarly Southern-tinged operator, Billy D’s Soul Food Kitchen.

Expecting to be ready by the end of the month, pending local approvals, the Amber’s Smoked Vegan menu will cover a wide variety of “down home style Southern inspired food.”

Already promised, house made sauces, main dishes served with sides like salad, rice and beans and corn succotash, plus sandwiches, appetizers and desserts including sweet potato pie and the deep fried “PB&J” or Oreos.

Familiar favorites given the all-vegan makeover, include jalapeno hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, corn dogs, burgers, jambalaya, “chik n waffles,” the “BBQ ribz plate” and a “Cajun Sauzage Po Boy.”
