Contento Pizzeria & Bar closed at Jerry’s Nugget barely seven months after its debut at the casino. An upgraded culinary replacement for the 12-year-old Uncle Angelo’s Pizza Joint, the project was overseen by maestro pizzaiolo Matteo Conte and Ismaele Romano.
Chef Romano already left the restaurant for downtown’s Good Pie before the closure. His resume includes stints at California’s Pizzeria Sapori in Newport Beach and North Italia in Irvine.
The North Las Vegas location had proved a hard sell to entice curious customers and reports of inconsistent service and food had emerged long before its closure. The adjacent value-priced “Contento To-Go” counter also shuttered.
Next door, the 24-hour Jerry’s Famous Coffee Shop remains in business, with chef Doug Taylor still the force behind the in-house bakery. Taylor arrived from downtown’s Art of Flavors and was formerly an executive pastry chef at Carnevino, B&B, and Otto at the Venetian.
