Border Grill’s second location in Las Vegas closed on May 15, just days after the final events of Vegas Uncork’d. Owners Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger announced the shutter of Border Grill at the Forum Shops at Caesars on their website.
“After nearly four great years, we’ve decided to close Border Grill at The Forum Shops in Caesars Palace on May 15. We are extremely grateful to our dedicated staff, the many guests we have had the pleasure serving, and the support of the amazing Las Vegas community,” they wrote of the restaurant at the front of the sprawling shopping center.
In positive news, chef Mike Minor’s barbecue and Mexican mashup restaurant opening across from the original Border Grill at Mandalay Bay now has a name. BBQ Mexicana opens on June 4.
At the Forum Shops, Border Grill sits across from the future home of The Slanted Door, the Vietnamese restaurant out of San Francisco. Chef and owner Charles Phan won a James Beard Foundation award for Outstanding Restaurant in 2014. The 8,100-square-foot restaurant at the front of the Forum Shops pushed back its opening to early 2019.
Water Grill also plans to open at the shopping center in early 2019. The ode to all things seafood out of Los Angeles takes over the Spago space. Wolfgang Puck’s Spago plans an early June opening at the Bellagio.
