Le Thai, the always bustling Thai restaurant on Fremont East, closes tonight for a a major remodel. The restaurant, one of the first to make the Fremont East entertainment district a dining destination, posted on Facebook that a reverse happy hour tonight starting at 9 p.m. sells everything from its curries to noodles at a discount until the cupboards are bare.
Dan Coughlin opened the restaurant in 2011 at a time when downtown offered few dining options off the Fremont Street Experience for good food that was inexpensive. Le Thai started with a very small menu, just five items in a downtown brick building, with one hot commodity aside from crazy good Thai food — an enclosed 800-square-foot patio.
In April Le Thai opened a take-out and delivery restaurant at Charleston Boulevard and Rancho Drive in Coughlin’s former Mix Zone Cafe space. There, diners can grab Le Thai classics, including larb salad, three color curry, and the addictive waterfall dipping sauce.
