Welcoming guests with a large hand-painted island scene mural and signage proclaiming “aloha and mabuhay” over the ordering counter, Lefty-J’s Island Favorites is now serving a Hawaiian and Filipino menu on the eastside.

Located at the Twain Swenson Plaza, owners Jeanette Gruspe Battulayan and namesake chef Lefty Battulayan, formerly of the Hard Rock Hotel, are already looking to expand on the current menu of familiar choices.

Replacing the former home of Al’s Donuts at the intersection of Twain Avenue and Swenson Street, options include Hawaiian plates served with furikake rice and “a side of mac salad,” including the $6.95 and $8.95 portions of chicken katsu paired with “Lefty-J’s dipping sauce,” “bbq chicken kalbi,” teriyaki beef, the $9.50 loco moco and spam, or “hot dog” musubi.

For fans of Filipino dishes, the menu adds the $4.95 chicken afritada or adobo, pinkabet and the $5.95 pancit.

Authentic flavors promised for the future include poke bowls, flan, sari-sari, “pork blood meat,” and “bbq pork sticks” grilled with a house marinade.
