Freed’s Bakery, the Eastern Avenue bake shop made famous on the Food Network’s Vegas Cakes, takes over a sweet shop that once served its wares. On Oct. 6, the bakery opens Freed’s Dessert Shop, located at 6475 N. Decatur Blvd., the former home of Sticks & Shakes.
Once open, the 1,160-square-foot Freed’s Dessert Shop plans to offer pastries, cookies, cake slices, 7-inch round cakes, and sheet cakes for all special occasions, along with specialty dishes such as Freed’s strawberry shortcake, cannoli, and Parisian cake with chocolate layered and iced with Belgian chocolate blended whipped cream and topped with chocolate shavings. Customers can order wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and more, all baked by the company’s 8,500-square-foot full-service flagship location at 9815 S. Eastern Ave.
That grand opening from noon to 3 p.m. celebrates the bakery’s 59th anniversary. Last year, Freed’s Bakery landed a show on the Food Network that showcases some of the complicated cakes the staff creates.
Freed’s Dessert Shop will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
