Chef Sonia El-Nawal returns to the restaurant kitchen, opening Rooster Boy Cafe on the shores of Lake Jacqueline. El-Nawal, a former pastry chef at Nobu in New York City, spent time in Paris and Mexico City before landing in Las Vegas to open The Perch at the Downtown Container Park. She went on to create Rooster Boy Granola before deciding to open Rooster Boy Cafe.
The restaurant offers a menu of breakfast and lunch dishes, featuring vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. Breakfast bowls in the $6 to $7 range come with granola, while toasts feature salmon gravlax, avocado, tahini and buckwheat syrup, or egg salad for $7 to $9. Galettes, buttermilk pancakes, a fried egg on a Kaiser roll, huevos rancheros, frittatas, and chilaquiles also make an appearance. Baked goods and desserts round out the menu. Nothing costs more than $12.
The restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Rooster Boy joins Americana and Marché Bacchus on the lake in Desert Shores.
