Coming soon, a home for UNLV students craving a spicy tamale

Serving its very focused menu in Sunrise since late 2015, Patty’s Tamales is expanding to the University Gardens retail center, across Maryland Parkway from UNLV.

The 1,200-square-foot space replaces the long-shuttered El Santaneco restaurant, a few steps from the post office.

The original Patty’s location, six miles to the northeast at 5061 E. Sahara Ave., only serves tamales to go, with a busy side business of catering for events and family occasions.

A recent menu has charged $2 per tamale, $12 for six and $24 for a dozen, with a choice of the non-spicy chicken red, sweet corn and sweet corn with pineapple, plus the spicy options of chicken green, pork red, chicken in brown sauce and cheese with peppers.

An opening date has yet to be announced. Another new tenant, Dice & Beans, has also yet be revealed, taking over the former Sinful Subs closed since last December.
