It took a couple of months, but the parent company behind Kona Grill has shuttered its sushi and cocktails restaurant at the Fashion Show mall, ahead of a makeover into the brand’s first brew pub concept.
Located in a prime position on the mall’s Strip-facing plaza since November 2015, Kona Grill is expected to be remodeled into the XXI Brew Co. and promoted with the new trademarked slogan of “eat more beer drink more beer.”
Early paperwork revealed the 8,214-square-foot interior featuring a custom-built exhibition kitchen and a 1,343-square-foot indoor-outdoor patio and bar area will be overhauled with an initial, estimated construction budget of $550,000.
Kona Grill sat between rival restaurants Ra Sushi and Benihana, creating an overload of Asian options within a few short steps. Fans of the Kona experience can still head to its original Las Vegas expansion in Boca Park.
The changeover, closure, or an estimated opening date have yet to be announced by Kona Grill or the mall.
