Michael Symon, the former co-host on The Chew, entered the Las Vegas dining scene in December with Mabel’s BBQ, but now he spreads his wings a bit more with a secret “meateasy” supper club tucked inside the restaurant.
Sara’s sits inside a room within Mabel’s BBQ that brings back the heyday of old Las Vegas with a menu of French-American dishes, many served table side.
Liz Symon, Michael’s wife, designed the space with Parts + Labor Design with its 20th century American speakeasy look. A leather-wrapped bar features brass accents, while natural stone tables and intricate mosaic floors deck out the space that has its own patio. Symon named the restaurant after the mother of the his business partner Doug Petkovic.
The menu features escargot casino, prime beef carpaccio, and smoked beef bones with horseradish. Sturgeon caviar comes with tater tots, crème fraiche, and egg on the side, while a shellfish tower covers the crab legs, claws, shrimp, oysters, and lobster side of the menu. Entrees include a smoked prime rib with au jus and horseradish shaved table side, truffle fried chicken with honey, and Dover sole meunière. For dessert, classics such as bananas Foster and cherries jubilee, of course done table side. Late at night, Symon serves a double cheeseburger with bone marrow, a shot of Dickel Rye, and a Miller High Life.
Five different styles of the Old Fashioned cocktails, rusty nails, amaretto sours, and a vodka gimlet make up the retro drinks. The Golden Slipper chocolate martini, The Palms perfect martini, and Pair-O-Dice greyhound are just some of the drinks named for casinos.
Sara’s, Palms, 4321 Flamingo Road, 702-944-5941. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 to 11 p.m.
