Get To Know Mega-DJ Steve Aoki’s Delivery-Only Pizza Restaurant

OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA — Deejay Steve Aoki, a regular on the Hakkasan and Omnia nightclubs circuit, now has a delivery-only pizza restaurant. Strangely, Nosh reports that the Pizzaoki location is home to six delivery-only pizza restaurants. The son of Benihana founder Hiroaki Aoki named his pizzas for moments from him music career. Every pizza starts with an herb-filled dough, topped with a sauce created by Aoki’s mother, Mama Aoki aka Chizuru Kobayashi. The Mayhem pizza starts with that herb dough and features 10 different toppings, like a supreme pizza, while Dim Mak, named for his record label, features pepperoni. Aoki launched his pizza business last July in Los Angeles, and according to his business partner Lawrence Vavra, plans to open up to 20 locations in Boston, Chicago, Miami, and New York City. HOUSTON — Rick Moonen takes on a new gig as the master development chef for Perry’s Restaurants. CultureMap Dallas reports that “Moonen has consulted with Perry’s for over a year and will continue to work with Grant Hunter, Perry’s corporate chef.” The restaurants with 14 locations in Texas, Chicago, and Denver offers prime beef, dishes carved table-side, and flaming desserts. Some of Moonen’s latest contributions include a red snapper crudo and European sea bass inside a salt dome. Moonen closed Rx Boiler Room and RM Seafood at Mandalay Place in November. ARTS DISTRICT — ZLife Hotel plans to open a four-story boutique hotel with 76 rooms at 918 S. Main St. by the end of the year. KSNV reports the hotel will include a 125-seat restaurant “featuring a widely known chef.” [KSNV]
