A new location for fans of fish-shaped, Japanese desserts, has debuted in the southwest, while another local destination is spending March temporarily shuttered.

Taiyaki LV has opened in the southwest at 7345 S. Rainbow Blvd., taking over a section inside Kung Fu Tea at the intersection of Rainbow and Warm Springs Road.

The new counter-service restaurant fills its taiyaki with a choice of cream filling, currently Nutella, red bean, or vanilla custard, a bonus addition of green tea or vanilla soft serve ice cream, and then the option of dozens of toppings including Oreos, cereals, nuts, and fruits.

Six miles to the northwest, Recess Italian Ice Desserts has temporarily closed until a scheduled return on March 28, denying fans the chance to enjoy custard prepared in their signature bear shaped bun.

Rumored to be under new management, Recess also offers the more familiar fish shape, and both desserts are so popular they are known to sell out early in the day.
