Zippy’s, Hawaii’s first home-born casual chain, now has a location and timeframe for its first location in the Ninth Island. The company plans to open its first location outside of Hawaii on the southeast corner of Badura Avenue and Montessouri Street near Rainbow Boulevard and the 215 beltway.
The Hawaiian institution since Oct. 17, 1966, serves comfort foods with an emphasis on welcoming families. Francis and Charles Higa created Zippy’s, and long cultivated very strong links to Las Vegas. The owners participate in promotions run by Vacations Hawaii, the charter company that ferries gamblers and tourists to Boyd Gaming resorts downtown. The connection has been so strong that Zippy’s famous chili used to be served on flights to Las Vegas.
The 7,000-square-foot restaurant, take-out, and retail bakery joins an additional 12,000-square-foot central kitchen/bakery, which will serve as a production facility for additional locations in Las Vegas. The restaurant opens in 2020.
