Right on schedule and perhaps a surprise to locals who discovered the temporary shutter, Shinya Maru Ramen & Izakaya is back in business on Fremont East.
Out of action since January, the restaurant used the time for a slight remodel, including the addition of a “sushi case” to assist Shinya’s new “refined menu.”
Created by California’s Octopus Restaurant Group, the changes import elements of the brand’s H2O Sushi & Izakaya that permanently closed at the Hughes Center earlier this year.
Located downtown behind Eureka! on the ground floor of the Emergency Arts building, the restaurant now features “sushi rolls, bentos, new appetizers,” and “happy hour” specials available every day from 5 to 7 p.m and 9 p.m. to midnight.
Shinya Maru’s casual sibling concept on Paradise Road, facing the Hard Rock Hotel, has continued to serve during the hiatus, now dishing its own rebooted menu of ramen, bento, and izakaya favorites including takoyaki, chicken karaage, and cheese pork cutlet.
