Shanghai-born Happy Lemon has expanded to more than 650 global locations since its origins in 2006, but operates only four, high profile U.S. stores. The fifth is almost ready to debut in Chinatown and has set an opening weekend for early next month.
Specialists in “rock salted cheese” and lemon-based beverages, the upbeat concept will launch on Friday, May 3, offering diners “buy one, get one free” deals for the following two days.
Replacing a 1,660-square-foot former dry cleaner, close to the corner of Jones Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road, Happy Lemon sits a few doors down from Nanay Gloria and TangTangTang.
Following the lead of its New York, Boston, and San Francisco counter-service outposts, the brand is promoting a menu stripped of “preservatives or artificial additives” and featuring freshly made tea and coffees, plus a collection of unusual choices including “milk tea boba puff cream,” mango matcha smoothies, a “kumquat lemon slushy,” and “freshly squeezed lemon green tea.”
