A frozen treat switcheroo in Anthem, as a local success story replaces a shuttered California import.

Berkeley, California-born CREAM, or “Cookies Rule Everything Around Me,” arrived at Henderson’s Siena Promenade in 2015, creating huge initial lines for its cookies and ice cream sandwiches.

A second location in Downtown Summerlin closed late last year and now the 1,295-square-foot space at the intersection Eastern Avenue and Coronado Center Drive has also disappeared without notice.

In its place, the second store for CJ’s Italian Ice & Custard, serving its very popular and elaborate servings of house-made Italian ice and custard.

In keeping with its self-deprecating social media presence, CJ’s warns “service will probably suck, Dessert most definitely will not,” during the early soft opening dates. Current operating hours have yet to be announced.

The original westside location at 3555 S. Durango Drive has been open since 2012 and makes its dozen or more Italian ice flavors daily and features more than 30 custard options.

Innovative choices have included French toast and custard, matcha flavored cones, “chamango” creations, and “Bananas Foster” sundaes.
