Operating more than 400 locations in its native Japan, Kura Revolving Sushi Bar now has an opening date for its 21st U.S. expansion, moving into a ground-floor space at Shanghai Plaza.
Kura becomes Chinatown’s fourth conveyor belt dining experience when it debuts at 4258 Spring Mountain Road on Tuesday, July 2, with initial opening hours of noon to 9 p.m.
Kura’s pre-prepared dishes safely travel around the restaurant inside a container featuring a flip-up lid, known affectionately as “Mr. Fresh.” Special orders can be placed via a touch-panel terminal at each seat and the food is then delivered via a direct conveyor belt.
On the large menu, choices of ramen, udon, and tempura, plus nigiri, hand rolls, crispy rice, and desserts of taiyaki fish-shaped ice cream and “Japanese-style soy milk donuts.”
Guest who finish 15 plates can drop them into a slot at each seat and receive a small prize, including stickers, small collectible figures, and replica pieces of sushi.
