Orchid Vietnamese, an unusual expansion all the way from White Bear Township, Minnesota, is the latest arrival at the Shanghai Plaza, Chinatown's still growing pan-Asian dining hub.
Family operated and veterans of “two restaurants in France,” plus a recently debuted space in Arden Hills, Minnesota, the ground-floor casual restaurant on Spring Mountain Road is serving a long menu until early morning, concentrating on dishes inspired by the cuisine of Nha Trang, Vietnam.
Familiar favorites of lemongrass chicken, phở, pad thai, Mongolian beef, and spring rolls join a collection of banh mi sandwiches, a wide selection of soups, and cơm tấm “broken rice” choices.
Entrees include braised catfish, fried pompano, pork prepared in a fermented fish paste, and the “Orchid Beef salad,” created with marinated cubed beef, stir-fried in a “special sauce.”
Still “coming soon” to the Shanghai Plaza, Kura Revolving Sushi Bar, Tai 2 Chinese Sauerkraut Fish, 85C Bakery Cafe and SweetHoney Dessert.
Orchid Vietnamese, 4266 Spring Mountain Road, Suite B-106, 702-268-8159. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m.
