The Southern Nevada Health District shut down the food prep area at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville at the Flamingo Las Vegas after inspectors found no hot water on July 29. The health department issued more demerits after finding large flies in the restaurants. The restaurant moved food prep to another area, so service continued. On July 30, the restaurant earned a zero-demerit A.

The health department shut down Maria’s Taco Shop at 7380 S. Eastern Ave. on July 30 after the restaurant failed re-inspection from a previous C grade on July 11. The re-inspection revealed potentially hazardous foods at unsafe temperatures and food improperly stored. The restaurant returned to a zero-demerit A grade on July 31.

The health district conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Inspections are posted online about five days after the inspection. The Southern Nevada Health District routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
