LAS VEGAS — MGM Resorts bought a 50 percent stake in Sydell Group, the company behind NoMad hotels, as well as the Line and Saguaro. The New York-based Sydell Group already has 16 hotels open or under construction in Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, and London, among other cities. The Vegas casino giant acquired the stake after buying the shares from Ron Burkle, a private equity investor. MGM Resorts and Sydell Group already have NoMad, which opened last year, inside the Park MGM. [WSJ]

MIAMIL’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, the more casual restaurant from the late chef Joël Robuchon, opened in the Miami Design District. Architect Pierre-Yves Rochon — who designs all L’Ateliers worldwide — created the look of the 3,400-square-foot space with dramatic lighting, bold colors, walls outfitted with polished rosewood, custom-made red leather Italian seating, flame-brushed granite flooring, and black painted ceilings. DETROIT — Shawn McClain, the chef behind Sage and Five50 Pizza Bar at Aria and Libertine Social at Mandalay Bay, opens four restaurants and bars at the the top of the Renaissance Center’s central tower on Detroit’s riverfront home by Nov. 15. The James Beard Award-winning chef says the 20,000-square-foot multi-level space at the top of the General Motors headquarters takes over the 71st floor. Highlands Steakhouse; a whiskey and Scotch-focused High Bar; the more casual restaurant Hearth 71 with beer-driven shared plates; and a private events space dubbed Highlands Events are just about ready to open. He brings on mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim to oversee the cocktail program at High Bar, Sage chef Scott Garthwaite to handle Highlands Steakhouse, and Nick Hetzel from Sage to handle the wines.
