The Mexican restaurant Macayo’s Mexican Kitchen closes its last restaurant in Las Vegas on Aug. 25. The 8,000-square-foot restaurant at 1741 E. Charleston Blvd. has been a staple on the eastside.
“We would like to thank all our customers for the many years you allowed Macayo Vegas to serve you,” the restaurant owners wrote on Facebook. “The day has come that we will be closing the doors for the final time. August 25, 2019 will be our final goodbye. When one door closes another door opens.”
True to their words, the owners do plan to return with the same menu, the same staff, but a new location and name. Blue Macaw plans to open on Sept. 1, taking over the 7,200-square-foot, former home of Famous Dave’s Barbeque at 9695 W. Flamingo Road, close to the intersection of the 215 and Flamingo Road. The avian-inspired name is derived from the English translation of macayo.
The new restaurant features a cantina, serving lunch and dinner along with the TCT, toasted cheese tortillas, as well as other familiar favorites ranging from tacos and enchiladas to fajitas and combination plates.
The westside location of Macayo’s at 8245 W. Sahara Ave. closed on March 10.
Macayo originally opened in Las Vegas 59 years ago.
