The late-night friendly, casual dining switcheroos at the original home of Tacos El Gordo on the Strip continue, with newcomer Tacos El Pastor officially preparing to bring a Mexican entertainment “supper club” component to the famed and wildly popular corner space.
Located at 3049 Las Vegas Boulevard S., Tacos El Gordo became a must-visit after hours haunt from 2011 until 2014, before a surprise shutter and return in 2015, and then definitively closing in late 2019, locating to its present location less than 300 feet to the north.
Vacant since October, filed paperwork reveals Tacos El Pastor will take over Taco El Gordo’s original 60-seat restaurant and proposes to expand the patio outside the front door. Upgrades will include a 60-foot stage dedicated to Mexican-themed entertainment from DJs, or live bands, scheduled from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Expecting to be open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily and closing at 4 a.m. on the weekend, Tacos El Pastor’s team includes operators of Pure Indian Cuisine in the southeast and India Palace on the eastside.
Yet to announced a possible opening date, temporary signage is already up and a previewed menu promises “the best tacos on the Strip” including pastor, asada, chorizo, cabeza, and tripa choices, plus sopes, lengua fries, churros, and a hot champurrado drink for colder moments outdoors.
