EASTSIDE — Vegas PBS hosts a free community event dubbed Flavors of the Far East with chef Marcus Samuelsson, who visited several Las Vegas Chinese-American restaurants while filming the PBS show No Passport Required in 2019. The event includes food from some of the restaurants featured on the show, as well as a screening of various clips from the Las Vegas episode. Nevada Week host Kipp Ortenburger will also lead a Q&A session with Samuelsson to talk about the growth of the Chinese-American community in Las Vegas. Chengdu Taste, Fat Choy, Shang Artisan Noodle, Flock & Fowl, Chubby Cattle, and Tea & Whisk are just some of the restaurants featured. To attend the free event on Wednesday, February 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., fans need to RSVP at vegaspbs.org/spotlight-series. The event takes place at the Vegas PBS Studio at 3050 E. Flamingo Road. UNLV — The Women’s Hospitality Initiative, the new Las Vegas-based organization that plans to help women develop into leaders in the restaurant and food-service business, now features more than 50 female chefs, mixologists, sommeliers, and restaurateurs for the February 18 culinary event at the Harrah College of Hospitality at UNLV’s Hospitality Hall. Some of the women involved now include Alexandra Lourdes at Saint Honoré, Angela Ippolito at Lupo by Wolfgang Puck, Ashley Costa at Vetri Cucina, Candace Ochoa at Bazaar Meat by José Andrés, Christina Wilson of Gordon Ramsay Group, Cindy Soliz of Buddy V’s Ristorante, Jamie Tran at The Black Sheep, Jennifer Murphy at Caesars Entertainment, Jenny Wong at Fat Choy, Jessica Perlstein at Main St. Provisions, Nicole Brisson at Locale Italian Kitchen, Nicole Erle at Cut by Wolfgang Puck, Penny and Saipin Chutima at Lotus of Siam, Veronica Arroyo and Vivian Chang at StripSteak, and Wyndee Forrest at CraftHaus Brewery. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with a screening of director Joanna James’ documentary A Fine Line at the University’s Judy Bayley Theatre followed by an interactive panel discussion led by Stowe Shoemaker, professor and dean of UNLV’s Harrah College of Hospitality, and Mary Choi Kelly, co-founder of WHI.
