Chef Kaoru Azeuchi moved his restaurant Kaiseki Yuzu from Silverado Ranch to Chinatown with three options for multiple small, intricate dishes. The new Kaiseki Yuzu takes over 1,800 square feet at 3900 Spring Mountain Road, behind Tofu Hut and Meet Fresh. The reservation-only kaiseki menu features hot and chilled dishes spotlighting seasonal ingredients.
A look at the $200 menu starts with a cold cauliflower soup with cured salmon, followed by otsukuri with chu toro and snapper. Then comes grilled halibut shinjo with uni, a shrimp and lotus root ball, grade A5 wagyu beef with miso, king crab and squid, oyster with yuzu ponzu, three kinds of nigiri, miso soup with shrimp, and strawberry pie with and hoji tea ice cream. Of course, the menus change, and reservations must be made three days in advance.
The space features two dining sections, including 10 seats at the open kitchen and two 12-seat dining tables, plus a second area with eight seats at the bar serving sake and Japanese whiskeys, and eight more inside a private dining room.
