One of California's best known names for serving Japanese hot pot deals brings all-you-can-eat shabu shabu to Spring Mountain Road.
Created by the Octopus Restaurant group — local operators of Gen Korean BBQ, Downtown's Shinya Maru, and the future Broth Shabu — newcomer Shabuya is now open daily at the Spring Oaks Shopping Center, replacing a beauty supply tenant and a close neighbor to Ding Tea, Honey Pig, and Crown & Anchor British Pub.
Taking over a former 6,000-square-foot corner space, staff currently checks temperatures of all customers and temporarily paused its self-service salad and ingredients bar.
Instead, diners pick their selections from a menu priced at $17.99 for lunch, served until 3 p.m. Monday to Friday and available for $16.99 for dinner. Shabuya prepares dishes at each table and offers five choices of broth for its hot pots — the house blend, a regular, or spicy miso option, tonkotsu created with garlic pork, and sukiyaki featuring a “secret blend of spices.”
Appetizers include gyoza, chicken karaage, japchae, and stir-fried rice cakes. Meats ready to head into the pot include pork shoulder, U.S. wagyu sirloin tip, beef toro, and the restaurant special, prime flat iron steak. The restaurant serves sake, soju, and cocktails.
Shabuya, 4725 Spring Mountain Road, 702-776-9277. Open Sunday to Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. and closing at 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
