Fans of the westside’s Texas Meltz might have been surprised by news the sandwich specialists planned to expand to an over-sized restaurant in the southeast, but now, as they count down the final weeks before a debut, the local brand has revealed the sibling venture will place a greater focus on its barbecue menu.

Currently hiring, L2 Texas BBQ replaces the shuttered, 5,995-square-foot standalone former home of Memphis Championship Barbecue on Warm Springs Road, a short drive from Eastern Avenue.

The restaurant promises a menu of Texas barbecue favorites in a roomy venue open for dine-in and to-go orders. The restaurant was built to accommodate drive-thru service as well. The owners spent the summer remodeling the kitchen and adding four new fryers.

Texas Meltz offers barbecue dishes at its original space that launched in late 2018. Options there include smoked brisket, deep-fried smoked chicken, or baby back ribs, smoked sausage, plus fried catfish, Texas toast, and its generous grilled cheese sandwiches.

Other Lone Star inspirations include chili, Frito pie, fried okra, and half-pound burgers named after Texas landmarks.

Still to divulge future opening hours, on Sahara Avenue Texas Meltz is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed on Sundays.
