Gus Dean’s ice cream is well on its way to becoming a ubiquitous local presence, with the fourth of a projected 15 local “scoop shops” now open on the Strip.
Serving up milkshakes and more than a dozen butter-sourced flavors of ice cream, the walk-up counter is now open daily at the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes food court, opposite Prime Burger and next door to Mediterranean restaurant Casanova.
Created at its own factory in the southeast and overseen by Bob Dawson and Jerry Tysinger, the name and branding was inspired by the team’s friend and full-time Bahamas resident Gus Dean, who has lent his likeness to the company.
Still working on new flavors created with butter, sugar, and non-fat milk powder, the current menu includes salted caramel, “very chocolate chip,” butter almond, fudge brownie, and peach.
Waiting to reopen its Nellis Air Force Base location and a mobile cart at the UNLV Student Union, home to a “Rebel Red” flavor, Gus Dean’s continues to fill waffle cones at the Meadows Mall and its most recent store at the Pawn Plaza.
Dawson revealed to the Nevada Small Business blog that Gus Dean’s is also looking at a future expansion to the Arts District, other resorts along the Strip, plus unnamed sites in Henderson and Summerlin.
Gus Dean’s, the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes food court, 702-414-4525. Open Monday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 8.30 p.m and Thursday to Sunday until 10 p.m.
