The Southern Nevada Heath District shut down the Fresh & Less Market Deli at 1061 W. Owens St. after finding a multi-generational cockroach infestation during a routine inspection on March 23.

During the inspection, SNHD found live roaches crawling inside a prep cooler and on a wall next to a hand sink. Cockroaches found their way inside a broken cooler and built a nest there.

The deli also received demerits for food such as fried chicken, rice, and barbecue chicken held at unsafe temperatures, a lock of sanitizer, and a stained cutting board.

The deli reopened on March 31 with a three-demerit A grade.

The Southern Nevada Health District conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Inspections are posted online about five days after the inspection. The health department routinely shuts down restaurants that receive more than 40 demerits. Restaurants have the option of requesting a re-inspection before the next scheduled inspection.
