LAS VEGAS — The hospitality group SBE distributed more than 300 care packages to employees furloughed from venues such as Kumi and Citizens Kitchen & Bar at Mandalay Bay and Hyde Lounge at T-Mobile Arena. The company also launched a GoFundMe page, raising more than $116,000 so far and the company promises to match every dollar donated. The company estimates that it has distributed 2,000 packages in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Miami. [EaterWire]
NATIONWIDE — BJ’s Restaurants, with locations in Centennial, Summerlin, and Henderson, laid off about 16,000 workers across the country. The company paid hourly restaurant employees accrued and unused vacation and sick time, and gave short-term emergency paid time off to employees ineligible for sick pay benefits under state or local laws. While BJ’s plans to recall those employees, it may close a number of locations, based on sales numbers, according to the Las Vegas Sun. The casual restaurant chain also did not pay leases for April.
