After more than two years of planning, Tijuana-inspired street tacos arrive in Chinatown. San Diego’s The Taco Stand plans to open on June 15 at the base of the Lotus apartment complex at the corner of Spring Mountain Road and Procyon Street in the Shops at Lotus.
The 1,778 square-foot space plans to offer its roster of specialty tacos, including al pastor with rotisserie-marinated pork, cilantro, onions, cilantro sauce, and pineapple, as well as a nopal taco, a vegetarian option with flame-grilled cactus, melted cheese, cilantro sauce, tomato, and avocado. The restaurant makes its corn tortillas as they’re ordered and a salsa bar.
Burritos, breakfast fare, mar y tierra fries topped with grilled shrimp and steak, and quesadillas round out the menu.
Co-owners Julian Hakim and Aram Baloyan grew up in Tijuana and opened their first location in 2013. The company now has six restaurants that span from San Diego to Miami.
The restaurant sits next to chef Eric Kim’s Sushi Kame, a 3,295-square-foot sequel to his Summerlin restaurant, Kame Omakase.
