Sin City is home to a lot of restaurants and bars, but there are tons of hidden gems that the majority of Las Vegans aren’t unearthing. To help guide readers to these potential discoveries, Eater Vegas enlisted some of the city’s food players to share their recommendations for a feature dubbed Dining Confidential.
For this edition, Eater Vegas reached out to chefs and restaurateurs to find out where they are ordering takeout and delivery during the coronavirus pandemic.
Executive chef Matt Hurley from Cut by Wolfgang Puck at the Palazzo likes to order takeout fare from Meraki Greek Grill. “It’s always consistent and delicious,” he says. His go-to order is their melitzanosalata, signature rice bowl with chicken (which is always cooked fresh, never dry) along with an order of mama’s rice pudding.
He also enjoys the pizza from Northside Nathan’s Pizza. “The Old Fashioned Detroit Deep dish is a go-to for my family and me along with the antipasti salad,” Hurley says. “Their wings are a must. The pizza cook has been there for 15-plus years and has the art of pizza making down.”
Tacho Kneeland, the executive chef at Cabo Wabo Cantina in Miracle Mile Shops, orders Mexican food from Taco y Taco on Eastern Avenue. “My go-tos are the pork al pastor tacos and mulitas de carnitas,” he says. He also orders agua de Jamaica and horchata.
For Thai food, he orders from Thailicious on Stephanie Street in Henderson. “My go-to appetizer is tod mun or soft shell crab, and my entrée is the green curry, house barbecue chicken, or veggie pad Thai. To drink, Thai iced tea.”
The Cuppa owner Holley Steele orders from her Gramercy neighbors. “When I do takeout, I keep it local and support my neighbors DW Bistro for the curry bowl, and Pinches Tacos for the guacamole. It’s nice to be able to walk a few doors down for great food!”
The Black Sheep’s Jamie Tran goes for comfort food when she’s not working. “For takeout, I go for comfort food at Weiss Deli,” she says. “My favorites are the Black Mountain Benedict and matzo ball soup. I’ve gotten other chef friends hooked on it, it’s that good.”
