A new bar on Fremont Street filled with thousands of lights and a collection of tequilas and mezcal gets ready to fully open on Wednesday night.

Lucky Day Tequila & Mezcal House planned to open in July with a 3,000-square-foot bar replacing Vanguard Lounge. Then Gov. Steve Sisolak reclosed bars to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on July 10, and Lucky Day only opened with a limited capacity. Now that bars can reopen, consider Lucky Day officially in business on Wednesday night with room for 103 and a menu of small-batch tequilas and rare mezcal.

Ryan Doherty — founder of Corner Bar Management and owner of Commonwealth, Park on Fremont, the Oddwood that just opened at Area15, Discopussy, and the under construction Cheapshot and We all Scream opening in early 2021 — is behind the new bar with a deejay booth created from a salvaged church pulpit, a dance floor, Latin music, and a menu with house-made tortilla chips and an assortment of signature salsas and guacamole flights.

Overhead, the bar features a canopy of 15,000 programmable LED lights that highlight art on the ceiling designed by Building 180 and created by artist Keegan Olton. The space features 12 pieces from Bob Dob out of Southern California, who specializes in paintings that celebrate the surf and skate punk rock culture.

Customers can order cocktails such as the Chica Blanca with rum, elderflower, rose syrup, lime, and egg white for $12; the Jalisco Fashion with Añejo tequila, black cinnamon tea syrup, blood orange liqueur, and cassia bark bitters for $14; and the Escorpion, prepared with mezcal, Hawaii chili-infused tequila, agave, sassafras bitters, and muddled cherry for $13.

Lucky Day will be reservation-only Wednesday through Sunday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., with limited walk-up service available during those hours. Reservations can be made by texting 702-291-7599. Lucky Day will be in full adherence to government health and safety mandates set by the state, including requiring masks for employees and guests, entry temperature checks, and strict social distancing. The dance floor will open at a later date, in addition to extended hours.
