Matteo Ferdinandi and chef Angelo Auriana, the team behind Eater 38 member Matteo’s Italian Ristorante at the Venetian, close Sixth + Mill at the Grand Canal Shoppes and convert the space with an indoor patio into Brera Osteria, opening in mid-February.

The restaurant on the resort’s replica of St. Mark’s Square takes its name from the Brera neighborhood in Milan, Italy. The restaurant plans to serve dishes such as a braised pork shank, cacio e pepe, and lamb chops.

The duo already has Brera Ristorante in Downtown Los Angeles, where the late Jonathan Gold, former food critic at the Los Angeles Times, recommended the farinata, a crepe that’s both soft and crunchy, to go with a Negroni.

Brera Osteria also plans to offer a happy hour, dubbed aperitivo hour, along with a full bar.

Sixth + Mill opened in 2019 with dishes from six Southern Italian regions, along with fare Auriana remembers from his childhood. The menu offers pizzas with red or white sauces, pastas using hard durum wheat or egg-based, fritters, and larger entrees.

The Venetian says that the transition from Sixth + Mill to Brera Osteria will not disrupt operations, and an opening date for Brera will come soon.
