Mariposa Cocina & Cocktails, the Mexican restaurant that opened in late November in the former Shiraz space, opted to temporarily close on January 30.
“As some of you may know, tomorrow will be our last dinner service at Mariposa for a month or so,” chef Robert Lomeli tells friends on Facebook on January 29. “We will be pausing service until restrictions are lifted to a more sustainable level. So if you’ve been wanting to come check out what we’ve worked so hard to put together and try some of the food that has been in my heart for so long, now is the time! But don’t worry, one thing I promise is that I’ll be back stronger than ever. If you know me, you know it’s no bullshit. I’ll be seeing you all soon!!”
The restaurant opened just as the state reduced capacity at dine-in establishments to 25 percent in November, required reservations, and allowed a maximum of four people per table, a mandate that remains in place until at least February 14.
Lomeli opened Mariposa with the help of consultants Antonio Nunez of The Stove in Henderson and Lanny Chin of The Slanted Door at the Forum Shops at Caesars and Slurp Society inside the Vegas Test Kitchen.
