The new Casa Calavera from Hakkasan Group reveals a dining room filled with Dia de Muerte decor at Virgin Hotels. Mexican tiles, pebbles, and stacked stone fill the space, along with mural art installations inspired by traditional calavera art, Lady Catrina, and symbolic references of Día de Los Muertos filled with altars, candles, butterflies, and marigolds. A tequila throne features marigolds, and diners can take photos in the chair.
The poolside restaurant offers Mi Casa Su Casa, its daily happy hour, and Taco Tuesdays. The happy hour daily from 3 to 6 p.m. offers $7 menu items, $20 buckets of beer, and 50 percent off tequila and mezcal cocktails.
Taco Tuesdays features $3 and $5 tacos plus beer and drink specials. Options include roasted chicken with achiote chicken, avocado, jicama, carrot, jalapeño, cilantro, chipotle mayo, and salsa verde; carne asada with adobo marinated steak, Oaxaca cheese, tomatillo salsa, and onions; shredded beef with slow-cooked beef Barbacoa, cotija cheese, cabbage, pickled jalapeño, chipotle mayo, and fire-roasted red salsa; pork carnitas with braised and crispy fried pork shoulder, avocado, pickled red onion, cabbage, and salsa verde; grilled shrimp with adobo marinated shrimp, avocado, cotija cheese, cabbage slaw, pickled red onion, and salsa verde; Baja fish with grilled aji amarillo-mahi mahi, cotija cheese, cabbage, pico de gallo, chili mayo, and lime; and portobello and rajas with charred onions, pico de gallo, greens, avocado, and salsa verde.
The restaurant also offers seven different margaritas and seven specialty cocktails, such as the Casa Cooler made with Hendrick’s gin, tequila, papaya, lime, and orgeat; the Hibiscus Margarita with Patrón reposado, hibiscus, and agave, lime, and hibiscus sparkling foam; the Passionfruit Mojito made with Mount Gay Eclipse rum, passion fruit liqueur, mint, lime, and club soda; and the Tamarita with Meteoro mezcal joven, agavero liqueur, and tamarind lime sour.
