Making a bold move to compete against half a dozen well established Creole- and Cajun-inspired spicy seafood restaurants in the neighborhood, California’s Crab N Spice is headed to Chinatown’s Shanghai Plaza.
Launched in 2014 and now operating in Palmdale, Ventura, Sacramento, and Bakersfield, California, the bib-providing, boil-in-the-bag specialists are headed to Suite 204 on the second floor of the very popular Spring Mountain Road retail center, sitting above Sharetea and Pepper Lunch.
The area is already home to Pier 88 Boiling Seafood, Hot N Juicy Crawfish, the Boiling Crab and the Urban Crawfish Station, but Crab N Spice plans to set itself apart with a roster of house-created spices that range in heat from mild to “Assasin8” and cooking sauces that include lemon garlic, Hawaiian, and coconut flavors.
Yet to reveal an estimated opening date, or specific menu, the California branches are open for lunch and dinner and serve a market price menu of king crab legs, shrimp, mussels, clams, crawfish, Dungeness crab, lobster tails, and snow crab legs, plus extras of corn, sausage, and quail eggs, baskets of fried calamari and onion rings, and sides of tilapia, clam chowder, and oysters.
The expansion joins a current trend for tactile seafood dining that includes expansion plans for The Vikings Boiling Seafood and another new location for local restaurant Crab Island.
