The Mirage’s 12-year-old cigar and cocktail Rhumbar will permanently close on July 25, and already the resort filed paperwork earlier this month to overhaul the Caribbean-inspired space.
The resort allocated an estimated construction budget of $2,295,000 to make over the outdoor patio and narrow indoor bar and convert it into an unnamed “new ultra lounge concept” that will move into the 4,500-square-foot space this winter.
With room enough for 114 customers, or 341 standing, Rhumbar originally opened in March 2009 by Michael Frey and Craig Gilbert of Drive This! Entertainment, the team behind Rhumbar’s shuttered predecessor Tacos & Tequila at the Luxor, now home to Diablo’s Cantina.
Located in a prime location at the southern pedestrian entrance, Frey remains a partner in Frey Boy Tobacco, creators of the Montecristo Cigar Bar at Caesars Palace and Casa Fuente Cigar Lounge inside the Forum Shops at Caesars.
Designed by Alvarez + Brock Design and inspired by the vision of “a minty mojito on a white beach overlooking a teal ocean,” Rhumbar offers a well-stocked cigar humidor and a cocktail menu featuring frozen daiquiris, mojitos, and a comprehensive collection of rums.
