Combining sweet and spicy Korean fried chicken with the heat of a Nashville hot sandwich, Oxnard, California’s Burnin’ Mouth is expanding from its California food hall roots to a brick-and-mortar space on the westside.
Realtors Virtus Commercial place the new home of the self-described “hottest chicken ever made” at the Charleston Festival retail center, close to Torrey Pines Drive and replacing a 2,340-square-foot Chipotle outpost.
Sitting next door to Capriotti’s and joining the Moko Ramen Bar and Grouchy John’s Coffee, Burnin’ Mouth debuted earlier this year in Ventura County’s Annex Food Hall, boldly challenging walk-up customers to sample its “insane,” “ugly,” and “bad” spice levels, or “chicken out” and opt for “mild” and “simple” heat on their meals.
Yet to announce an estimated opening date, the Burnin’ Mouth menu features fries, chicken wings, tenders, and Texas toast, and its two main attractions, the Nashville hot Coo Coo sandwich, topped with pickles, sauce, and coleslaw, and the Bang Bang, prepared with garlic soy or sweet chili sauces, topped with butter ranch, coleslaw, and pickles and the brand’s own version of comeback sauce.
