Two new restaurants are on schedule to become neighbors when they debut at the westside's Sahara Pavilion North later this summer, and the first to arrive will be a tribute to a fast-food favorite.
Counting down to an announced August 13 launch, Weenies Charbroiled moves into a 3,163-square-foot space at the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
Once occupied by Playa Papagayos, the new restaurant will charbroil Sahlen’s brand hot dogs and serve up foot longs, Sonoran-style danger dogs, plus beef on weck sandwiches, wrapped pizza logs, sweet potato fries, and milk shakes.
Right next door, Mariscos 701 is expanding from Pomona, California, taking over a roomy 4,945 square feet and replacing the former Ojax Mediterranean Fusion Grill.
Promising a lively atmosphere and scheduling live entertainment, the extensive California menu is dedicated to seafood and traditional Sinaloan dishes, plus tomahawk steaks, lobster, sushi, tacos, caldos, botanas, and ceviches.
Mariscos 701 expects be open before the end of the summer.
